New Girls Shootaround Basketball
A fun atmosphere where girls, grades 3-8, can maintain their basketball skills and connect with other girls who enjoy the sport during the off-season. All experience levels are welcome. We will hold 16 sessions, 8 spring and 8 fall, at Carver High or RMS Midday. Sessions will be held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and will consist of 45 minutes of drills and training followed by 45 minutes of pick-up-style games. This program is intended to be a low-cost, low-commitment experience, allowing athletes to participate in other activities.
Registration/Cost:
Registration will open in January and remain open until all spots are filled. The registration fee is $55, one-time, for both Spring and Fall. We can issue refunds in extraordinary circumstances, such as changes in health or relocation of residence, and a $20 administrative fee will apply.
The participant’s age is determined by their grade in the Spring. For example, 8th-grade students in Spring 2026 may/will still participate in the fall session.
Equipment:
Participants will need to bring their own ball to each session as well as wear non-marking shoes. All baskets will be 10 feet. Pinnies will be provided during gameplay.
Volunteers:
To be successful, this program will require volunteers to supervise pre-planned sessions. We are also looking for high school students and young adults willing to help. Having older girls around who share an enthusiasm for sports will enhance participants’ experience and help foster a community of strong female athletes. This program has been pre-approved by several area schools for Service Learning Credit.
